The tiresome world of films that revolve around mindless action or pubescent spew can bring movie buffs down. But don’t give up hope: The Boulder Outdoor Cinema is an inviting alternative to the status quo. Every Saturday around 8:30 p.m., viewers gather behind the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art to enjoy a movie classic under the stars. Admission is a $5-per-person donation, viewers must bring their own seating, and pets and alcohol are prohibited. There are food concessions on hand, but unlike at traditional theaters, patrons can bring their own cinema treats if they choose. This Saturday’s feature presentation is the mind-boggling War of the Worlds; coming attractions include such diverse classics as E.T., Monty Python and the Holy Grail and To Kill a Mockingbird. And get out the drag gear and rubber gloves, because The Rocky Horror Picture Show appears later in the summer lineup.
