Bettie Serveert

Bettie Serveert, Thursday, October 5, at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre, with Counting Crows and Live, has spent the last couple of years outside of the indie spotlight cast upon it following a series of well-received outings for Matador; after being dropped from the label, the Dutch band has finally released Private Suit, its first studio recording since 1997’s Dust Bunnies. A careful collection led by the plaintive vocals of Carol Van Dyk -- who often suggests an intellectual Chrissie Hynde with a European sensibility -- Suit is a reminder of why Bettie Serveert first gained favor with fans of smart, understated pop. Bettie’s more recognizable tourmates may not share those qualities (Live being neither smart nor understated), but the chance to welcome Van Dyk and company back to an American audience is reason enough to make the drive to Fiddler’s.
