Sucker

Proving that there's more to music in the High Country than après-ski singers doing Jimmy Buffett covers, the Vail-bred rap-rock quartet Sucker, Friday, December 15, at Tulagi, has spent the last three years establishing itself as one of the state's most promising live bands. Now based in Boulder, the group's energetic mix of reggae rhythms, hip-hop vocals and a snowboard- and skater-friendly ethos (plus the manic bounding of lead singer Scott Stoughton) provides a positive lyrical diversion from the current crop of rage-rockers. Sucker recorded its newest album, Get On Board, at Detroit's 54 Sound, with help from engineer Steve King (Kid Rock and Eminem), and has been busy spreading all that love from Kansas to California. The band returns to Boulder fresh from dates in Snowmass with the Beastie Boys' Mix Master Mike.
