Q: Is there a Web site where I can buy berbere?

A: The essential spice blend for Ethiopian cooking, berbere involves garlic, red pepper, fenugreek, coriander and cardamom in varying amounts, depending on the creator. But because of confusing and annoying trade-regulation problems in Ethiopia, several Ethiopian sites, including my favorite, mesob.net, won't be offering the spice blend again until the end of May, when restrictions are supposed to be lifted. In the meantime, you can buy berbere locally at Arada Ethiopian Restaurant (3504 East Colfax Avenue, 303-329-3344), a teeny but big-on-flavor eatery with a teeny market attached.
