Q:I'm very excited that my 93-year-old great aunt may visit. I'd like to find a special "old-lady" kind of place to take her. Since her hearing and eyesight aren't what they used to be, it can't be too dark or loud but it has to be nice.

A:I'm sure it doesn't like to think of itself as an "old-lady" kind of place, but Ellyngton's at the Brown Palace (321 17th Street, 303-297-3111) is a beautiful restaurant, and your aunt is actually younger than the venerable hotel. (The Brown's Palace Arms restaurant falls in the too-dark category.) Another downtown option is The Broker (821 17th Street, 303-292-5065), which does a wonderful job with deliciously retro fare. And, of course, there's always Tante Louise (4900 East Colfax Avenue, 303-355-4488) -- another elderly aunt -- which offers a combination of old and new French cooking that should meet both your needs.
