While a William Shakespeare sonnet is always good for stirring up romance, why not really knock your Valentine's socks off by composing an original verse to declare your undying love -- and then read it in front of a room full of strangers? Tomorrow night at 10 p.m., the Mercury Cafe is hosting a free Evening of Love Poetry, where all you have to do to share your deepest feelings is step up to the microphone.

"It's such a nourishing and romantic environment," promises Marilyn Megenity, owner of the Merc. "I'm always amazed at the quality of poetry that people are writing here in Denver. It's going to really be sexy."

Feeling a little nervous? Try to relax over a dinner of special love potions in the establishment's restaurant; laugh at the Mercury Motley Players' 7:30 p.m. performance of Lovers, Split, Lovers, Split, Strangers; or dance your stress away in the Argentine Tango classes held at 7 and 8 p.m. "The whole place is going to be transformed into a giant Valentine for the evening, with lots of roses, gentle candlelight, magical recipes" Megenity says. "It's definitely going to be an erotic evening."

The cafe, located at 2100 California Street, is offering the reading for free; dance lessons are $5, and admission to the play costs $10. Call 303-294-9281 or visit www.mercurycafe.com for details.
