If you think barreling down a steep mountain trail with your extremities exposed and only a helmet protecting your noggin is a rush, this Saturday's Velo Expo is the perfect place to get psyched about the upcoming mountain-biking season.

The Expo, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the National Western Complex, 4655 Humboldt Street, will feature over ninety booths stocked with the latest cycling equipment from Giant, Schwinn, Bianchi, GT, Litespeed, Moots, Merlin, Dean, Marin and others.

The bike gathering is not only about gear: Attendees can also test-ride electric bikes and scooters, watch a BMX trick-riding performance by the Mile High Extreme Team or register for upcoming Colorado sporting events, including the Bolder Boulder 10K race and the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic. "It's really designed to appeal to a broad audience -- everyone from families to extreme athletes," says Dave Whittingham, director of the event.

And for the Homer Simpsons out there, educational clinics will teach topics that range from endurance training to bicycle mechanics. "We want to share our knowledge with people who are just learning about the sport," Whittingham says. Young riders looking to burn some energy can take part in the bike rodeo; bikes and helmets will be provided.
