They might not be hitting double axels or triple salchows, but the Summit Figure Skating Club promises to wow winter visitors with Christmas on Ice, Copper Mountain's version of the Ice Capades led by former professional figure skater Jennifer Bradley."It's a Christmas medley with both group numbers and solo routines," explains Bradley, who toured with the Ice Capades in 2000 and now teaches figure-skating lessons at Copper. "We have some really good skaters; they're cute, they're young, and they're on their way."
Held on the West Lake in the Village at Copper, the free Christmas on Icestarts at 4 p.m. today. "It adds some holiday animation to the Village," says Bradley. "And it's perfect entertainment for families after a day of skiing or shopping."
West Lake is also open for public ice-skating Sundays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Skate rentals are available for $5.95 per hour for kids ages thirteen and under, and $7.95 per hour for ages fourteen and older. Skating is free for those who bring their skates. Ice-skating at Copper is dependent on weather conditions. Call 1-866-841-2481 for further details.
And if sit spins and "shoot the duck" don't quite fit your fancy, Copper will feature several other holiday activities today, including pictures with Santa Claus, live music by carolers and the Alpine Brass Trio, and scenic sleigh rides.

Triathlon features snowy terrain

Triathletes will take to the snow at today's MountainQuest Winter Triathlon Race, the first event in a three-part series sponsored by MountainQuest Adventures. Today's race will consist of a three-kilometer run on snow-packed roads, an eight-kilometer mountain-bike ride and a five-kilometer cross-country ski race; helmets are required for the mountain-bike portion.
"The bottom line is that this race is something different. With the high altitude and cold weather, it's something unique," says MountainQuest co-founder Barry Siff. "But we attract all levels of athletes, from beginners to professional adventure racers."
The race starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Leggett Building at Snow Mountain Ranch in Winter Park.
For individuals, registration is $45 in advance and $55 the day of the race, $75 to $90 for relay teams of three people. Individual competitors can register for all three races in advance for $110; upcoming dates are February 9 and February 29.
