On the Road

Several years ago, three of us took off on a road trip to Ft. Lauderdale. We started after Christmas and had no deadlines. The first day, we made it to Trinidad. We never drove more than 300 miles a day. We each took turns driving our hundred miles, then we'd stop and party.

As luck would have it, we made it to Wichita Falls, Texas, for New Year's Eve, not realizing that we were in the Bible Belt and that it was a dry county. We checked into a Motel 6 and made some inquiries. There were a couple of social clubs where you had to pay a membership to get in. Also, they were bottle clubs where you provided your own liquor. We never found a liquor store, and the admission to these clubs was high.

We ended up back in the beautiful motel watching our paid TV. It took quarters to turn on the television. We ended up falling asleep before midnight!
