Drink of the Week

Miami Vice

I loved Miami Vice, with its sexy yachts, fast cars and dangerous criminals. And since it went off the air in 1989, Friday nights have never been the same for me -- I still miss Sonny Crockett. But life goes on. And if, like me, you prowl the streets of LoDo on Fridays looking for trouble -- or live entertainment -- head over to the Comedy Works for a Miami Vice ($6.50), a frozen cocktail that will take you straight to South Beach. Made with rum, strawberries and piña colada mix, this bright-red slushie topped with whipped cream and a cherry is the perfect way to cool down (the tiny basement nightclub packs 'em in like sardines) while satisfying the two-drink minimum requirement. The Comedy Works' lineup of national comedians and local funny faces draws a diverse crowd filled with suburbanites still dressing in high 1980s fashions, bachelorette parties and Comedy Central fanatics. They're all laughing out loud, too, which makes this a place to practice careful drinking. It's never attractive to have red liquid shooting out of your nose, after all, and you wouldn't want to stain that white Don Johnson jacket.
