What's that flying through the air? Holy coffeecake, it's a bunch of Danes! And they're great: The National Danish Performance Team, an international gymnastic touring group in town this week as returning guests of the City of Aurora, is electric. That's the enthusiastic word from Alan Herron of Aurora's community gymnastics program, who has seen them in action. The NDPT will give a dance and gymnastics workshop for kids ages eight to sixteen at noon today at Overland High School, 12400 East Jewell Avenue in Aurora; a two-hour public performance, including tumbling, comedy, quick costume changes and traditional Danish folk dance, follows at 6 p.m. in the school's auditorium. But don't expect the Olympics-style athletic displays you're used to watching on the tube, says Herron. The troupe's gyrations are more like those of Cirque du Soleil, with its acrobatic dance numbers and clever clowns. "It's an entertaining family show with lots of high-flying, flippin' fun," he says.
Team members, who come from a country in which group-oriented gymnastics training is considered a part of everyday life, also share an inspirational message. "Their idea of sport for all reflects the theme of our programs here in Aurora -- that you don't have to be the most special, talented kid to be helping your team," Herron says. "Sport is a great avenue for us to grow and share ideas."

All About Kids Expo gets 'em going

Winter can be cruel for kids, but it's the parents who really suffer. There are only so many ways big folks can appease snowbound youngsters. But this weekend, those seeking relief from kiddie cabin fever won't have to go far: The twelfth annual Radio Disney All About Kids Expo is coming to town, featuring a zillion things to do under one roof, all geared toward the three- to twelve-year-old set. With pony rides, mini-golf, craft tables, inflatable bouncing rooms, slides and play structures, karate demonstrations, balloon artists, entertainment on two stages and much more, little ones should find plenty to keep themselves occupied. "It's a place just for kids, where the activities are free and they can go in and have tons of fun," says Radio Disney spokeswoman Catherine Magnusson. Say no more!
Attend the expo from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, or from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow, at the Colorado Convention Center, 700 14th Street.
