"We love Denver," say the producers of Rattlebrain Theater Company, as if to cover their tracks. "And you always hurt the one you love." The improvisational troupe will explore its abusive relationship with the city in its fifth original comedic production, It's Hickenlooper's World -- We Just Live in It.
The sixteen-sketch revue simultaneously celebrates and spoofs the Mile High City, taking on everything from the local nightly news and the beastly T-Rex construction job to the ubiquitous, crowd-pleasing new mayor himself.
"Hopefully, anyone who decides to see a Rattlebrain show with a title like this will come in with a good sense of humor," comments artistic director Dave Shirley. "Because nothing is sacred."
Let's just hope that by "nothing," they mean John Elway.

James Galway seems wedded to his flute; he's even married to a flutist. So whenever someone -- say, the makers of the Lord of the Rings trilogy -- needs a flutist, Galway gets the call. The Irish piper, who began blowing a five-keyed wooden flute as a boy in Belfast and moved to a golden instrument as an adult, launched his solo career in 1975. Since then, his fame has spread so far and his reputation has grown so large that he's been knighted by Queen Elizabeth and is now known as Sir James. Joined by his flute-tooting wife, Jeanne, Galway will walk onto the stage at Boettcher Hall at 7:30 p.m. tonight for a concert with the Colorado Symphony -- his first here since 1986. There will be some Henry Mancini tunes, maybe a couple of Irish encores in honor of St. Pat, but who cares? Whatever he plays, the stylish Galway blows away the competition. Music, Noise and Silence take over at CSO

Disharmony will reign today at Boettcher Concert Hall when meddlesome spirits attempt to seize control of the joint in the final installment of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra's family concert series. The invading sprites, known as "Music, Noise and Silence," will create a chaotic atmosphere that only the audience and associate conductor Adam Flatt can quell. Featuring the Magic Circle Mime Company and music by composers Franz Mendelssohn ("Dance of the Clowns"), Johann Strauss ("Blue Danube Waltz") and Ferde Grofé ("The Grand Canyon Suite"), the afternoon should provide enough comedy and culture to suit everyone in the clan.
The 2:30 p.m. concert will be preceded at 1:15 by a musical set courtesy of the Show and Tell Band. During that time, children can also get up close and personal with the instruments at the Instrument Petting Zoo. Admission is $15 for adults and $7.50 for kids.
