Not a soul will be standing still tonight in Sloan's Lake Park, 25th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard, where a mighty barrage of mariachi, Tejano and salsa music will blare and blend at a free Latino Rhythms Concert hosted by the City and County of Denver. Part of the city's summer free concert series, the 7 p.m. event features Mariachi Vasquez, Mood Express and Conjunto Colores under the stars; folks in the know bring their blankets and picnic dinners to the park early so they can snag a good spot. ¡Arriba! For information on this and other city-sponsored free events, log on to www.denvergov.org.
No name could have described these guys better: The incredible lineup in the Soul Survivors, a band featuring funk-jazz keyboard pioneer Les McCann, session great Cornell Dupree on guitar and Grammy-winning sax player Ernie Watts, not only boasts a long collective trail of past gigs with such soul-music greats as Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding and Roberta Flack, but they've also been around on their own, and they're all the better for it. Groove with the tip-top trio and their sidemen, Gordon Edwards and Buddy Williams, tonight at 8 p.m. at the Boulder Theater, 2032 14th Street in Boulder; for tickets, $21.50 to $30, call 303-786-7030 or go to www.bouldertheater.com.
