Lake Steam gets more fair weather

Forget $2 drink specials, free draws and all the bad pick-up lines that come with them. The Lake Steam Baths is offering a real ladies' night.
Starting this afternoon, the 77-year-old institution opens its doors to the fairer sex on the third Sunday of every month for a little pampering.
"For four years, I've been trying to get another day," says owner Amy Hyman. "But the men buy most of the memberships, so we can't add an extra day. But then I asked my husband, Hannon, &'Will you close at 3 p.m. on Sundays, and I'll open at 4 for the ladies?'"
He agreed, and the arrangement gives us gals a much-needed extra spa night -- since we're banned from 3540 West Colfax Avenue except on Mondays and Thursdays, when Lake Steam is a no-boys-allowed club. Doors are open from 4 to 9 p.m., and it costs $12 to enjoy the baths and $28 for a one-hour massage.
"If these are busy, I'll do two Sundays a month," Hyman says. "If those are busy, I'll do three. If those are busy, I'll do every Sunday."
