Scratching the Surface

Roger Sanchez

Although Roger Sanchez became a house-hold name in 1989 with the release of his breakout track "Luv Dancin'," he has left his mark on much more than just the club circuit. From producing tracks for Michael and Janet Jackson to writing music for the Blade movies and Cirque du Soleil, to winning a Grammy for a reworking of No Doubt's "Hella Good" last year, he's one of the few artists to transcend the role of DJ/producer and achieve success in other aspects of the music biz. But that's not to say he's turned his back on the turntables, by any means. The DJ is as busy as ever, holding down residencies in NYC, Ibiza, Barcelona and Montreal, where he finds time for marathon fourteen-hour DJ sets at that city's Club Stereo. Sanchez packs the house this Saturday, December 4, at Vinyl.
