The Fight

Wednesday, February 9, Club 156, Boulder, 303-443-2227.

While nu-punk bands are proliferating like maggots nowadays, few of them burrow very deep into the genre's tradition. But England's the Fight does -- as evidenced by Nothing New Since Rock N' Roll, the group's 2004 debut full-length. While its previous EP on Fat Wreck Chords -- Home Is Where the Hate Is, recorded while the players were still teenagers -- put the Fight on the pop-punk map, Nothing New is a frenzied, breakneck exploration of the U.K.'s gloried punk-rock legacy. Referencing the anthemic attack of late-'70s legends like Generation X, the Buzzcocks and Stiff Little Fingers, the band sticks out from the Hot Topic crowd like a safety-pinned thumb. The Fight (along with the Dropskots, the Downs and A Void) brings the noise to the cramped confines of Club 156 on Boulder's CU campus -- the perfect setting for raised fists, shout-along choruses and a healthy contusion or two.
