You won't be able to swing a dead cat this week without hitting a blinged-out, card-carrying member of the hip-hop glitterati. Expect everyone from Big Boi to Busta Rhymes (due at Club Bash on Friday, February 18, and Sunday, February 20, respectively) to be at least a Mile High as they throw down in Mootown. So here is Club Scout's guide to the stars, our very public service for the unwashed masses, so that they, too, can be bold and beautiful -- assuming they can summon up enough dead presidents to cover the door charge.
On Wednesday, February 16, Bash (1902 Blake Street) hosts Lisa Raye's All-Star Kick Off Party (Raye played Diamond in The Player's Club). Among those slated to make appearances are Trilville, Flava Flav, Trina, Adina H, LeBron James, Jamie Foxx and Lil Wayne. For ticket info, call 720-435-7627.
On Thursday, February 17, Lil Jon and Ludacris will stop by the Paladium (62nd Avenue and Pecos Street) -- rechristened Club Carmelo through Sunday, February 20 -- for an after-party co-hosted by Carmelo Anthony following Jon's performance at the Fillmore (tickets for all of Club Carmelo's events range from $75 to $150). That same night at Vinyl, local-boys-done-good Chauncey Billups and Big Jon Platt will host Jermaine Dupri's Welcome to Denver party, featuring DJ Kid Capri(tickets: $40). Meanwhile, Allen Iverson is set to host his own shindig at Club Ra with Lil' Kim (for ticket info, call 720-435-7627), while Magic Johnson kicks off his All-Star Weekend festivities with a fashion show and old-school after-party featuring a performance by the Zapp Band at the Sherman Street Event Complex (1770 Sherman Street; $75 tickets available at King Soopers). And Playboy Playmate of the Year Carmella DeCesare and June '04 Playmate Sandra Hubby will heat things up at Rise, with DJ Skribble getting busy on the decks.
On Friday, February 18, Nelly will get derrty at Club Carmelo; Roc-A-Fella recording artist Denim performs at Roc-A-Wear's Grown and Sexy Fashion Show at Embassy Suites Southeast (7525 East Hampden Avenue; tickets $30); Kenny Smith hosts the TNT/StuffMagazine Party at Vinyl, with DJ Jazzy Jeff and Biz Markie. Down the street, Serengeti rolls out the Red Carpet for Shaquille O'Neal and Amare Stoudemire's East Meets West, featuring DJ Kay Slay (tickets: $50 to $125); at Rox, Twista, T.I. and Jermaine Dupri will be joined by the Awesome Two, aka DJ Special K and Teddy Ted (tickets: $75 to $100); Kenyon Martin hosts a jump-off party at the Mile High Station Entertainment Complex (2027 West Colfax Avenue), with DJ Chonz on the ones and twos. (No official word on who else will stop by, but the flier boldly boasts "Who won't be there?!") And that's not all: Jadakiss will hold things down at the Sherman Street Event Complex, with the EBC, Bigboy and the Q-Time. Finally, Latin Lockdown, hosted by Mario Lopez and featuring DJ Rectangle, takes place at the Soiled Dove (tickets: $25).
Saturday, February 19, gets rolling with P. Diddy's Diamonds & Fur Party at the Church, again hosted by Billups and Platt, with music by DJ Kid Capri (tickets are $100 at Groovetickets.com); at the Snake Pit, Benzino hosts the NBA All-Stars Weekend Party; and down at the Hard Rock Cafe, it's the Models and Bottles Party, hosted by supermodels Esther Baxter and Vida Guerra, with DJ Bedz and NYC's DJ Self behind the decks and Mya, Lil' Flip and Kenan Thompson (SNL, Fat Albert) all slated to drop in. The Drop It Like It's Hot Celebrity All-Star Experience at the Denver Coliseum will feature twelve hours of entertainment and a game pitting the New York Legends All-Stars against the Colorado Storm ABA team, with performances by Gerald Levert, Ciara, Lloyd Banks, Keyshia Cole, Anthony Hamilton and Ky-mani Marley (tickets $22.50 at the door). And at Club Carmelo, Shaq and Melo will set things off with Lil Wayne.
Finally, on Sunday, February 20, Melo and Allen Iverson co-host a final gig at Club Carmelo with a performance by Jadakiss; meanwhile, P. Diddy brings things to a close at the Church with his All-Star Grand Finale, featuring BET's DJ Enuff on the tables (tickets are $125 at Groovetickets.com).
