Scientists at the Webb-Waring Institute for Cancer, Aging and Antioxidant Research know the secret, and it's not blueberries. According to a bartender at the Recovery Room, this joint fills with Institute researchers in the afternoon; when I stopped in at night, I found an eclectic neighborhood crowd that had made the same discovery. The Recovery Room is quite a find for people trying to escape the inexplicably high prices of cocktails in Cherry Creek, and with a happy hour that runs from 2 to 8 p.m. and some of the cheapest drinks in town any time of day, it's one secret I'm not keeping. The place doesn't serve food, but it stocks menus from the nearby restaurants on Colorado Boulevard and will call in an order for you that's delivered right to the bar -- a perfect solution if you want falafel and your drinking companions prefer Mexican. Nor is the Recovery Room into fancy cocktails. "We're really more of a Jägermeister and tap beer kind of place," the bartender told me, but she still came up with a delicious UV Raspberry Blue Vodka and club soda ($3/$2.50 at happy hour). I kept calling it the Louie-Bloo, since it tasted exactly like a Louie-Bloo Raspberry Otter Pop. Another great Recovery Room service allows you to prescribe a cocktail (pre-purchase a drink) and leave a message for the drink's recipient on the pad, like this one: "I'm going to tell you what I tell the other men in my life. If you can do better than me, go right ahead." Now, there's a prescription for trouble!
