Scratching the SurfaceK-SwingBy Timothy PittzPublished on June 16, 2005The typical superstar DJ's career can sometimes span decades. Jocks like Paul Oakenfold, Wink and Bad Boy Bill, who've been around forever and show no signs of letting up, can make it tough for an up-and-comer to make a name in the scene. But it's these new faces who are injecting excitement into the clubs. New York's Katie Kabel -- or K-Swing, as she's known when she's behind the decks -- is one of those who've made quite a splash in a relatively short time, spinning at some of Gotham's biggest clubs. In 2004 she was nominated for Best Breakthrough DJ at the Dancestar USA awards, and she performed alongside the Chemical Brothers and Adam Freeland on recent tours. Swing by Vinyl this Saturday, June 18, and catch K-Swing in action.
