moe.

Friday, July 1, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, 303-830-8497.

Originally alternating between the somewhat prosaic handle Five Guys Named Moe and the more esoteric Haggis, in 1991 this quartet eventually settled on the monosyllabic moniker moe. (That's right, race fans, lowercase and with a period.) The Buffalo-based act boasts an assortment of cap feathers, including a stint on the Furthur Festival tour in 1997, a performance during the riot-free portion of Woodstock '99 and more recent sold-out shows at the Fillmore. With a weaving twin-guitar attack and a stout low end provided by outstanding bassist Rob Derhak, moe. brews its own unique blend of groove. Reflecting an array of genres, the group's sound ranges from the peppier melodies of its early influences (the Modern English and Steely Dan) to the more blues-soaked rock of the Allman Brothers and Led Zeppelin. Having won a coin-toss, moe. will follow an opening performance by Warren Haynes and Gov't Mule. Hey, moe.
