After spending years behind the scenes, Tommie Sunshine has stepped into the spotlight and turned dance music on its ear. Although the New York City-based DJ came of age in the Midwestern rave scene, it wasn't until the electroclash explosion of the new millennium that he really began to make his presence felt. From co-producing landmark albums like 2002's Kittenz and Thee Glitz with Felix da Housecat to performing at Larry Tee's legendary Electroclash Festival and touring with Fischerspooner as the act's official DJ, Sunshine has established himself as one of the leaders of a new sort of DJ eclecticism. Now running his own label, Xylephone Jones, the jock continues to pioneer the self-described rock/house/disco/electro-punk/lo-fi and dance pogo scene. The Sun shines this Friday, August 5, at Vinyl.
