Castle Nightclub

After giving it a try for just five weeks, the Castle Nightclub, at 83 East 120th Avenue in Thornton, has pulled live music from its roster. According to booking manager Mike Crisler, the problem was partly a lack of promotion by the bands, and partly a decline in the music scene in general. That same decline has apparently hit House of Rock, at 11140 Irma Drive in Northglenn. Crisler, who books local bands for that club, too (as well as for Buffalo Rose and Coors Amphitheatre), says he's not sure how long House of Rock will continue to offer live music. The venue was supposed to be sold several months ago, although that deal has yet to go through.

Get ready for Movieoke, an innovation coming to the Walnut Room (313 Walnut Street) in mid-September. Although the Walnut Room has been doing movie nights for a while, this concept amps up the fun, combining karaoke with films. While a projector shows the movie -- with subtitles -- club-goers can stand in front and act out the scene however they see fit. Look for a "sex, drugs and rock-and-roll" film series at the Walnut, too. And on Friday, October 7, the club will kick off a monthly '60s Mod Swing night. The first installment will feature the Denver premiere of Cocksucker Blues, the controversial Rolling Stones tour documentary, as well as live bands, DJs and a swingin'-'60s lounge atmosphere.
