Club Evolution

Give till it hurts.

'Tis the season to give, so give already. You can start this Friday, December 9, at Club Evolution (821 22nd Street), with Nuclia Waste's Island of Misfits Toy Drive, organized by the Colorado AIDS Project. DJs Achilles and Jonwill spin the latest in diva house (imagine house music with a Mariah Careyattitude). Return to the club on Thursday, December 15, for the Swisha House Charity Christmas Party, hosted by some football dudes -- namely, Broncos Dwayne Carswell, Tatum Bell and Sam Brandon. The hip-hop-heavy night will be commanded by DJs Ktone, Quote and Jonny Fantastic, with a special appearance by Swisha House Records CEO Michael 5000 Watts. The event will raise money for Hurricane Katrina victims, to ensure a happy holiday for those affected by the storm.

But Evolution's evolution involves more than seasonal fare. Starting December 8, Glow -- the newly named hip-hop night -- will take over the two-story building every Thursday (along with a strict dress code). "I'm going to try and stay away from the KS 107.5 mainstream stuff," says promoter Kevin Kain. "I want it to be a smooth night, and for the cultures to cross over." And cross they will, since Evolution is a noted gay- and lesbian-oriented hot spot. (Hope those Broncos enjoy the huddle.)

The new night is just part of a tumbling snowball of change for the club, but change is good, according to owner Andy Mannsfield. "We're trying to find our place," he says, "because there's a lot of different things going on. We're still staying predominantly gay, but we're branching out to the straight community, as well." For the past few months, for example, Lipgloss-ers Michael Trundle, Tim Cookand Tower have brought their Softcoreto Evolution every Saturday, filling the place with their usual blend of indie and Brit pop.
