Single Frame

Monday, December 12, hi-dive, 720-570-4500.

Between being a hot-shot photographer and a full-time rock star, Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs found time to remix a couple of songs this year: "Compliments," by Bloc Party, and "People Are Germs," by the slightly less- known Austin outfit Single Frame. But don't let the group's lack of fame fool you. The trio of Jason Schleter, Adreon Henry and Ian Graham (who recently replaced founding guitarist Brendan Reilly) has been perfecting its electro-art manipulation over the past five years, culminating in the recent full-length Body/End/Basement. As dark, hollow and claustrophobic as the best of vintage new wave, the disc still twitches with deep beats and huge hooks -- a sound that seems to embrace technology even as it rejects it like a defective implant. A new EP, The Vinyl Disasters, contains three remixes, including Zinner's twisted, caustically danceable reworking of "Germs." Single Frame takes the stage of the hi-dive with tourmate Mixel Pixel for an 8 p.m. all-ages show; come early and then go to bed with a head full of what the band likes to call "acid-induced micro-nightmares."
