Chapel of Groove

"I feel as if the Denver dance-music culture is one of the strongest in the entire nation," says Ryan Dykstra, the man behind Ryan Dykstra Nightlife and the event promoter of 2K6, today's mind-blowing conglomeration of the hottest names in electronic music. "It's a very loyal following."

For this special seventeen-hour bash, Dykstra is bringing in such heavyweight acts as Electric Skychurch — an ambient techno collaboration featuring composer/producer James Lumb and vocalist Roxanne Morganstern — drum-and-bass master Dieselboy, MC J Messinian, Kimball Collins, Frankie Bones, DJ Hive and Bunny from Rabbit in the Moon. Most electronica enthusiasts would be perfectly happy to drop $25 ($35 at the door) for the chance to see just one of these artists, but all of them? In one night, on the same stage, so you don't have to miss a single headliner? Along with more than seventy local DJs? That's just plain crazy.

"The 2K series, since its inception, has always tried to touch on all the different genres of electronic music: house, techno, progressive, trance, drum-and-bass and the live element," says Dykstra. "This is a dance-music event that follows the ideal of the global culture, using the club route and using legal methods to present the same type of thing in a way that everyone can be safe and enjoy it." Sounds like a plan.

The eighteen-and-over event starts at 2 p.m. at Shelter, 1037 Broadway; the party moves across the street to Two AM Afterhours, 1144 Broadway, from 2 to 7 a.m. Visit www.ryandykstranightlife.com for details.
Sat., Feb. 25, 2 p.m.-2 a.m.
