Whoa, Belly!

Some historians believe that belly dancing's isolated hip movements were used to strengthen the muscles needed for childbirth. These days, though, most women (and their male fans) get into belly dancing because it's dead sexy.

But Miles Copeland had music in mind when he created the Bellydance Superstars, a top-of-the-line dance troupe that shimmies into Denver today, touching down at the Sherman Street Event Complex, 1770 Sherman Street, for a workshop/performance combo coordinated by Marrakech, an Evergreen tribal shop and belly-dance studio.

From 1 to 3 p.m., catch Petite Jamilla's Double Veil and Spinning workshop; then, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Kami Liddle will host a Tribal Fusion workshop, during which she'll help dancers learn complex movements using locks, breaks and waves. The extravaganza concludes with a performance by the Superstars at 7 p.m. Ladies, make sure you're caught up on your birth control.
