DIY or Die

Hop aboard the Gadabout Traveling Film Festival.

Like many a young independent filmmaker trying to get a foot in the door, Eric Ayotte felt disenfranchised. It's not an easy life, he learned, and you just have to make your own way through the muck. But he took his future into his own hands and started the ragtag gypsy Gadabout Traveling Film Festival. "I was motivated by the indie music scene to pack it up and go on the road," he says.

The microfest seeks not only to expose audiences to quality short films by unknowns, but also comes with a built-in zine library, live music by Halo Fauna and a filmmaking crash course. "I'm hoping to inspire people to make their own short films or publish their own zines," Ayotte explains.

Gadabout rolls into town today in a biodiesel-powered ambulance. Visit the fest starting at 7 p.m. at Clandestinos Collective, 719 West Eighth Avenue; for more information, log on to www.gadaboutfilmfest.com.
