Theory of Relativity

John Ashton, who's directing a new production of Insignificance, doesn't much like Nicholas Roeg's 1985 film version of the play, which imagines a meeting of individuals who bear a striking resemblance to Albert Einstein, Marilyn Monroe, Joe DiMaggio and Senator Joseph McCarthy. "I hated Theresa Russell's rendition of Marilyn," he says, "and I thought Gary Busey playing DiMaggio was goofy casting." Then again, he adds, "We're talking about Nicholas Roeg, and I'm dorky John Ashton sitting in Denver."

Luckily, this particular dork is working with a stellar group of local actors, including William Hahn as DiMaggio, Rhonda Lee Brown as Monroe, John Arp as Einstein and Michael Morgan as McCarthy. In Ashton's view, "it's informative, it's fun, and it's got heart to it." Take that, Mr. Roeg.

Insignificance plays tonight at 8 p.m. at the Mizel Center for Arts and Culture, 350 South Dahlia Street, and runs through May 20; tickets range from $18 to $20. For a complete schedule, call 303-316-6360.
Thursdays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sun., May 7, 7 p.m.; Sun., May 14, 7 p.m. Starts: April 6. Continues through May 20
