Bible of the Devil

Monday, April 17, Larimer Lounge, 303-291-1007.

The lack of an ocean in the Midwest means two things: Scene kids are pale motherfuckers, and music is heavily under the influence of indoor activities. It's no wonder, then, that Chicago, the land of bitter winters and muggy summers, is such an incestuous breeding ground for homebodied stoner rock and doom metal. Catch a whiff of Chi-town's Bible of the Devil for proof that the windy city blows more than just puffy clouds of air. Like a handbook for filthy rock and roll, the four-piece -- made up of dueling Flying V guitarists Mark Hoffmann and Nate Perry, bassist Darren Amaya and drummer Greg Spalding -- takes its influence from classic riffage and raises hell on wicked guitar solos and tech-nerd finger tapping. Bible of the Devil is the bastard child of Rainbow and Sabbath, and the title of its 2005 release on Scarey Records sums up these black sheep in three perfect words: Brutality, Majesty, Eternity.
