Pitching a Tent

Women unite under a red roof for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Last year, Stephanie Beacher read Anita Diamant's best-selling novel The Red Tent. The book chronicles the lives of the Old Testament figure Dinah and her four mothers, the wives of Jacob. Beacher was inspired by the tale: "Some of [the wives] are sisters, and there’s all kinds of jealousy and things going on. But when they go to the tent, they just tend to each other, help each other through life and nurture each other.

"There are so many women being called to raise energy and gather women," she continues, "and there needs to be a place focused on just tending to each other, to nurture the body, to make connections with each other, and then raise intention for serving our lives and the earth."

Beacher is now the director of the Red Tent Experience, an opportunity for women to step inside her vision. Today between noon and 5:30 p.m., participants will gather in PreEminence Hall, 3213 Walnut Street in Boulder, to engage in tea ceremonies, a facial bar, foot baths, massage, chanting and drumming.

"It's not a feminist thing, where it's exclusionary to men," notes Beacher. "It's where the women gather in order to serve their relationships and their communities with men. Women need that time just to fill up and relax."

Admission to the Red Tent Experience is $75; for details or to register, call 303-440-8886 or visit www.redtentexperience.com.
Sat., April 29, 12-5:30 p.m.
