Mother's Day seems to be all about food. Bringing Mom breakfast in bed, taking her out to brunch anything to help keep her out of the kitchen for at least one day. Denver Cooks!! continues that tradition with its Great Big Mother's Day Bash from 1 to 4 p.m. today, part of a culinary weekend at the Colorado Convention Center, 700 14th Street. Let Mom watch someone else slave over a hot stove while she reaps the benefits: samples of gourmet food with champagne, beer and wine.
Over on the main stage, Mom can check out a variety of demonstrations on how to throw the perfect luau, or secrets of traditional and exotic Mexican cooking and at the educational stage, she can learn about the new raw-food fad or design her ultimate fantasy kitchen.
When you tell her that the event is presented by Women Standing Tall, a collective of wives and mothers of celebrities, and that all proceeds from the event benefit Project Angel Food, the Lifelong AIDS Alliance and the Center for Empowerment, she'll feel proud that she raised such a thoughtful kid.
