Bicycle Bonanza

The weather is getting too pleasant to ignore, and those '70s rockers in Queen had the right idea: "I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike!" So go ahead, strap on those cycling shoes and strut like Freddie Mercury today at the City Park Criterium. The annual biking competition, now in its 35th year, comprises a series of races taking place on a nearly mile-long circuit that loops and curves through the fairly flat terrain in the southwest corner of the park, located at East 17th Avenue and York Street. Registration begins at 7:15 a.m., and races will continue through the afternoon. Bikers of all ages are welcome; junior riders (up to age eighteen) race free, with fees ranging from $15 to $25 for everyone else. Plus, there are cash prizes and medals waiting at the finish line for those who can pedal the fastest. For early registration and more information, go to www.rockymountainroadclub.com or call 303-886-3508.
Mon., June 4, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
