Bugging Out
The phrase "performance art" conjures up images of poorly executed college-drama indulgences, and it certainly doesn't do justice to Jessa and James Huebing-Reitinger's Project InSECT. Jessa creates gigantic, true-to-scale, fantastically vivid bugs in front of the audience while James uses skits, stories, lectures and insect tattoo painting to enhance the extravaganza.

Denver is lucky enough to have two places and two ways to experience the project: The Wildlife Experience Museum, 10035 South Peoria Street in Parker, will host a full exhibition of Jessa's artwork plus daily Project InSECT performances starting on June 17 and running through September 10; and the Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center, 6252 West 104th Avenue in Westminster, starts buzzing with activity today.
Fly in to the Pavilion to view a collection of Jessa's work; the exhibit runs through September 11 and includes insect origami and other hands-on activities. And Fridays will net Project InSECT performances.
