All That Jazz

Gerald Albright is one smooth operator.

"Of course, I loved his playing," he continues, "but the thing about Grover that I appreciate is the man himself. Not only was he an accomplished musician, but he was a great family man. He was someone I would want to pattern myself after. There's certain people who just walk into your life, and they have the art of making you feel good, and Grover is one of those guys. Everybody says, ŒI want to be like Michael Jordan. I want to be like Mike.' I want to be like Grover."

But Albright is a great guy in his own right, and a welcome addition to Colorado. And now that his time on the road is slowing down, he's looking forward to firmly establishing roots here, in the place that inspired the title of his latest disc, New Beginnings.

"There's no shortage of scenery here," he says. "It's definitely God's country. I like the slower pace that it has in comparison to Los Angeles, where I grew up and spent most of my life. The people are nicer here. I think it's a great place to raise a family, and the surroundings are conducive to creating music."

Even smooth jazz.
