Where has the summer gone? Were you stuck in your office all season? Did you miss the boat for that cruise around the world? Were your kids limited to playing in the sprinklers all summer? If you weren't able to escape the greater metro area, don't despair: The Northern Aurora Business Association invites you out to Fletcher Plaza (9898 East Colfax Avenue) for the Festival International. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., you can soak up all the culture you missed while staying in town and toiling away at your job.
A long list of multicultural performances, food kiosks, sports demonstrations and hands-on activities for the kids will transport you to Eastern Europe, China, Ireland, Japan, Africa, the South Pacific, India, Australia, Brazil — even back in time to Aztec Mexico. You can also pick up a few souvenirs at the festival's World Market. Impress the other cube monkeys at your office when you show up on Monday with a bindi dot on your forehead, hands covered in henna tattoos and a poster of your name translated into Korean to hang on your wall. They don't have to know you only made it as far as Aurora.
