Artland: USA

Voom’s Gallery HD

Artland: USA is a twelve-part television series that explores art and architecture across America from behind the wheel of an RV -- and in the third episode, which screens tonight, hosts Charles Luxton and Mame McCutchin motor from tiny Marfa, Texas, to the Mile High City. Along the way, Luxton and McCutchin celebrate two very different examples of Colorado design: the Air Force Academy chapel in Colorado Springs, and Cano's Castle, an outsider art spectacle near Antonito.

As for the Denver portion of the program, it's more about the future than the past. Luxton highlights Daniel Libeskind's addition to the Denver Art Museum, but because the building wasn't completed at the time of filming, he's unable to render a verdict on it. This segment is followed by an interview with Dean Sobel, director of the Clyfford Still Museum, which will be built on land near the DAM. Fortunately, Sobel's description of the project, as well as lingering looks at some of the Still works that will be on display when the museum opens in 2009, provide a tantalizing preview for locals and out-of-towners alike.
