Black Pegasus

Fuck Yo! Radio (The LA Underground)

On 2005's Knuckle Up, Robert "Black Pegasus" Houston included "Club Killah," a song that bitch-slapped DJs for turning a deaf ear to his rhymes. With Fuck Yo! Radio, he ups the ante. Not only does his new disc end with a live version of the aforementioned tune (spelled "Club Killa" this time), but the title track assaults programmers at Greeley's KISS-FM affiliate for being "corporate cocksuckers with college degrees."

As this line indicates, Black P's words are as striking as ever, and so is his flow, which is equally effective on throwdowns ("The Dirt") and smooch showcases ("So Glad"). These qualities contribute to a solid CD, albeit one that lacks unique production. "Someday," for example, uses the sort of sped-up vocal sample that Kanye West left behind years ago.

Radio programmers probably won't gravitate to tunes with an overly familiar sound, but that could be a good thing. After all, rejection will provide Houston with even more material.
