Blue Blooded Girls

Larimer Lounge

Existing somewhere at the crossroads of complete abandon and tightly controlled psychosis, the music of the Blue Blooded Girls jerks the limbs and contorts the face of frontman Jme White. And he doesn't seem to mind. In fact, he appears to be swept up in the electrifying embrace of a wicked muse. Obviously influenced by the hellfire and catharsis of the Birthday Party, Blue Blooded Girls (due at the Larimer Lounge this Tuesday, October 31) rein in their explosive urges with demonic musical precision. Although their sometimes proggy guitar lines can be a bit much, there's no denying that this is a band that has chops and is doing something with them other than just showing off. Guitarist Steve Gray and drummer Mike Behrenhausen were once in well-regarded experimental surf band Maraca 5-0, while White was the demented keyboard player in arty punk outfit Acrobat Down. This latest project builds on the players' considerable strengths without falling back on past musical laurels. Blue Blooded Girls is a new monster, and it sounds like one. Theirs may not be the music of Eric Zahn, but it sure is twisted.
