If I got to make one wish, know what I'd wish for? The chance to meet a pirate named Jack. Well, Captain Jack, preferably. Maybe it's Johnny Depp's impish smile, or the devil-may-care glint in his gorgeous, bottomless eyes when he straps on the persona of Captain Jack Sparrow. Maybe it's that I've always thought Captain Morgan's first name should have been Jack, even though it's really Henry (honestly, what kind of a name is Henry for a rum-swilling seadog)? Or maybe I should just chalk it up to my barely contained excitement over tonight's annual Make-A-Wish Foundation gala, Captain Jack & the Isle of Wishes.
If your one wish involves Captain Jack, too or a pirate of any kind, or even just making wishes come true for children with life-threatening illnesses then steer your ship toward the Marriott City Center, 1701 California Street, at 6 p.m. There you'll find scurvy scalawags aplenty, dinner, dancing and both silent and live auctions. Call 303-750-9474 for tickets, $175; for more information, go to www.isleofwishes.com.
Sat., Nov. 4, 6 p.m.
