There's a simple reason why Deicide is appearing at Hubba's rather than the Mercury Cafe. Back in 1996, these extreme-metal vets refused to play a show at the Merc over an equipment dispute, pissing off a crowd of 300. "When Deicide came downstairs without playing, I told them, ŒGet the hell back up there,'" Cafe owner Marilyn Megenity informed Westword at the time. "Now, these guys still want to keep their bad-boy reputation, but they're middle-aged men. And they said, 'No -- they're so angry that we feel endangered.'" The decision to split led to unfortunate repercussions: In addition to damaging the club, upset attendees swiped sound equipment said to be worth $2,000. However, the Deiciders survived to rock another day, and a decade later, they're still a going concern thanks to releases such as The Stench of Redemption, a just-issued disc containing the family sing-alongs "Death to Jesus" and "Homage for Satan." Looks like these still-middle-aged men (appearing with Desolation) are working overtime to keep their bad-boy reputation intact.
