BeLola

Get down at Lola!

"We're keeping it beachy," says Jennifer Lydiard, general manager for Lola. The Latin-influenced restaurant -- which relocated earlier this year from its South Pearl Street location to 1575 Boulder Street, under the old Olinger Mortuary sign -- has just expanded south, into the basement. The new lower-level party room, cleverly dubbed BeLola, opened last week on Día de los Muertos (that's the Day of the Dead, whitey). But as Lydiard assures Club Scout, the added experience will remain very sunny and coastal.

"We're sticking to the Latin theme, but it's our alter ego," she says. "It's a little bit less formal, less rules. It's a bar area and a lounge area. It's definitely more set up for hanging out and not dining."

The intimate space caps out at about eighty, and will be open Thursday through Saturday, with an extended happy hour from 4-6:30 p.m. But it will also have later hours than the restaurant proper, and feature a range of saucy live music -- from Cuban-style bands to flamenco-inspired acts. But you might have to wait a couple of months to check out the new digs: Lydiard says the space is already pretty much booked solid through the holidays for private parties.

"We're letting it evolve into what people like and love, and we'll cater to that," Lydiard says. "We're just getting our feet wet right now, and we'll see what works and what doesn't."

It's anniversary season! The hi-dive celebrates its third year as the town's premier hipster haven November 17-19, with bands, bingo and a hangover brunch. And Quixote's makes the end of a decade November 24-25 with a free-for-all jam-out featuring hippie dudes Stephen Perkins (formerly of Jane's Addiction), Willie Waldman (of Banyan), plus others.
