It's Divine

Once again, it's the season to cheer about stupid lights turning on at Downtown Denver's Grand Illumination. Sorry if I sound, well, bitter. As a waiter for a private dinner club, I once had to serve champagne and hors d'oeuvre in the rain — in a tuxedo shirt, no less — at one of these outdoor light-up parties. About a dozen club members stood around in full-length fur coats while I shivered like an anorexic Eskimo.

But 'tis the season for forgiveness, right? So I'll be there tonight when the Grand Illumination kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at Union Station, 1701 Wynkoop Street, and I'll stay while it continues at other downtown landmarks, including Skyline Park, the D&F Tower, the 16th Street Mall, Larimer Square and the Denver Pavilions. The celebration ends with the Light the Lights countdown at the City and County Building at 6:45. For more information, check out www.downtowndenver.com.
Fri., Nov. 24, 6:30 p.m.
