Hot and Cold

The Naughty and Nice Holiday Revue runs the gamut.

When the St. Julien Hotel ballroom was in need of a custom holiday revue show, Kim Franco was the obvious person to talk to. The former Cabaret Diosa singer and dancer didn't hesitate in her decision to create a '30s-era extravaganza with the Naughty and Nice Holiday Revue.

"We have a real affinity, an affection for that era of music," Franco says, "so when they asked us to tailor-make a holiday show for the St. Julien, we felt like the mixture of the flirtiness and the elegance would really fit well with the venue.

"We have Peggy Tulane, who adds a really fun, flirty element, and she definitely adds the naughty element," laughs Franco. "But it's very tastefully done; it's not at all tawdry. Still, it's not really suitable for kids under twelve. A lot of other holiday shows are more family-oriented; this is more for a company or office party."

Also making appearances in the revue are Franco herself, who will sing with fellow vocalist Erin Humphrey. "We have some really fun guest performers," Franco notes: Romano Paoletti, Jefferson Hamer and Brian McRae from GogoLab as the drummer.

"It's shticky and fun, and there are dance numbers and a four-part a cappella number in there. We're just generally having a lot of silly fun," Franco says.

Some songs you might recognize include "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" and "Count Your Blessings."

"Other than that, it's a lot of ragtime and jazz, '30s style," says Franco. "We have swing dancers who have been coming out in full regalia, dressed to the nines."

Take a hint from the dancers and dress yourself up for tonight's revue, which will be the last of the season. The St. Julien is at 900 Walnut Street in Boulder; the show runs from 7 to 9 p.m., and admission is $5. Visit www.sonicbids.com/companyink for information.
Sundays, 7-9 p.m. Starts: Nov. 25. Continues through Dec. 23, 2007
