Hicks's woozy, idiosyncratic variation on Western swing first reached a national audience with 1969's Original Recordings, a platter whose most memorable song posed the timeless question "How Can I Miss You When You Won't Go Away?" He's pretty much stuck to this style ever since, but the musical camaraderie he enjoys with his band, the Hot Licks, doesnt get old. Neither does his sense of humor, which he displays on would-be Yuletide staples such as "Rudolph the Bald-Headed Reindeer."
