Sweet Celebration

The Matzo Ball is where it's at.

Christmastime can be lonely for a Jew. Santa parades atop snow-sprinkled rooftops, "Now Dancer! Now Prancer!"-ing all through the night, but is there a Hanukkah Harry shimmying down your chimney in his soot-dusted suit, eyes a-twinkling, belly shaking like a bowl full of jelly? No. Not that that's a problem — it's just that while everyone else (or what seems like everyone else) is tucked away, dreaming of sugarplums or maybe a new set of snow tires, Jews are stuck wondering when everything will open again. It's a sad, sad plight for a Jew on Christmas.

So instead of cursing the world for being closed on what (to you) is just another day, be the belle (or beau) of the ball — the Matzo Ball, that is, an annual singles mixer hosted by the Society of Young Jewish Professionals. Don your best come-hither apparel and head down to Polly Esther's, 2301 Blake Street, at 8 p.m. for drinks, dancing and everything that goes along with it.

The Matzo Ball is not just for Jewish singles; everyone is invited, including couples. Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at the door. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to www.matzoball.org, where you'll receive a $100 Sleek MedSpa gift certificate for ordering online, as well as $5 off each ticket with a "matzo" discount code (all lowercase letters). Attendees must be 21 or older. For details, call Polly Esther's at 303-382-1976 or SYJP at 1-888-633-5326.
Sun., Dec. 24, 8 p.m.-2 a.m.
