Once again, you've got the post-Valentine's Day blues. You braved your insecurities, bought those expensive flowers — and then, in the middle of your carefully planned date, your Valentine let loose those four vicious words: "Let's just be friends."
The Hot IQs feel your pain — and they have the perfect indie-rock Band-Aid: the all-ages Let's Just Be Friends Ball, tonight at 7 p.m. at the Bluebird Theater, 3317 East Colfax Avenue. "You'll laugh, you’ll cry, you'll dance," predicts frontman Eli Mishkin. "And we'll just be friends. Great friends. No expectations."
Thankfully, the IQs promise to be friends with very good benefits. To help celebrate this anti-Valentine's Day shindig, they’ve invited local musicians Mr. Pacman, Cowboy Curse and Lion Sized, not to mention comedians Greg Baumhauer, Ben Kronberg and Westword's own Adam Cayton-Holland. They're also giving away free 21-and-over tickets to the $8 show on their MySpace page, www.myspace.com/hotiqs.
And while you shouldn't expect to find true love at the ball, you might get a little nookie. "We encourage more PDA at this show," says Mishkin. "As we all know, friends with benefits are the best-case scenario."
