Born Again

I don't know shit about jazz. Sure, I own a few jazz CDs. I've been to a few jazz shows. I even wrote a paper in college on Miles Davis. But I don't have a clue about tonal structures or chord progressions or whatever, and honestly, that's not why I listen to jazz. I listen to jazz for the same reason most people listen to hip-hop: because it makes me feel cooler than I really am.

Thankfully, there's a new contingent of young musicians trying to justify my delusions and prove that jazz coolness didn't end with Miles. Many of them will be making their case today through Sunday during the Re-Birth of the Cool Week at Dazzle Restaurant and Lounge, 930 Lincoln Street. Kneebody, Future Jazz Project, Colin Stranahan, Ben Van Gelder and many others who emerged from the perilous abyss of Kenny G's perm will do their best to make sure everyone knows jazz is still cool, even if we aren't.
