VanBuren and the Group, his backup quintet, have been a staple on the Denver jazz scene for years, and they'll be featured at the benefit, which Sealover hopes will recapture the feel of the musical glory days of Five Points' past. "It will be a nightclub setting with dinner, dancing and a silent auction," she says. "It's always a good time when James plays, and this will be no exception."
Harlem of the West will be held at the Walnut Foundry, 3002 Walnut Street; doors open at 5:30, dinner starts at 6 p.m., and music follows at 7 p.m. Admission to the fundraiser is $75, and all proceeds go to support Hope Communities' work in providing affordable housing and resident services to needy families.
