I only got to attend one prom in high school, and it was lame. My date was drunk at 3 p.m. when I picked him up, and he brought a flask of whiskey for himself and his friends (I declined). I was terrified the entire night that he was going to get me kicked out of the dance.

Well, tonight is my chance to take back my memories of the ultimate formal dance. Then, Now, & Forever, a prom for grownups, is taking place at the Radisson Greystone Castle, 83 East 120th Avenue in Thornton.

"My friends and I are in our late twenties, early thirties," says Christine Kovacs, prom committee chair, "and we feel like we're way too old to go clubbing. Lots of us have no business being in booty-type wear. We wanted to do something where we can dress up and be crazy.

"It'll be old-school," she adds. Hell, yeah!

I'm donning my finery and heading for the Castle at 7 p.m.; the first 100 people in the door get a free prom photo. The $50 ticket includes real food, not just chips and dip, and two drink tickets; I can increase my buzz at the cash bar. And if my attire is creative and crazy enough, I might even make prom queen!

You must be 21 or over to attend; hurry and visit www.adultprom.net for tickets, because this is one Denver prom that could easily sell out.
