Chic Cause

The cause for Africa is almost as large as the continent itself, and it's not just Angelina Jolie who has a vested interest in African children. Kelsey Horine, marketing director for Alliance Française de Denver, spent last summer volunteering at an orphanage in West Africa and wanted to do something to raise awareness.

Tonight, in conjunction with Trans-Afrika Cultural Institutes, the Alliance presents L'Afrique C'est Chic because Africa is fashionable and because the organizations want to raise funds to educate refugee African children. Purchase arts and crafts made by local African artists such as Linda Maich and Patricia Ayite (whose work, along with that of others, will be on display at the Alliance throughout this month), dance to French-African music and fill up on homemade ethnic cuisine. Party from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Alliance Française, 571 Galapago Street; a suggested donation of $5 to $10 is requested. For more information, call 303-831-0304 or go to www.afdenver.org.
Fri., March 2, 6-9 p.m.
